Containment Chamber
Description
Within chemical and pharmaceutical processes, components and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) constitute real hazards when operators, during manipulation, are exposed to and potentially breath aerosoled solids in. To protect the operators and the environment, the use of containment interfaces with different levels of exposure performance exist (OEL, occupational exposure levels) in all phases of the process line.

Product Design
ATMI LifeSciences developed disposable, flexible containment chambers for safe and easy removal and introduction of chemical components, API, contaminated filters from housings and process equipment.
Especially for use of these containment chambers, a new highly puncture resistant LDPE film was selected to minimize risks of pinholes or cracks. Using LDPE films, allows operators to see through the film during operation.
In order to achieve Operator Exposure Band 3 (OEB3: 10 to 100 µg/m³), containment chambers are used following continuous liner principle or the Bag-In-Bag-Out principle by eliminating contaminated chambers and content safely. When using the very last containment chamber to wet and clean the contaminated areas, even higher containment levels can be achieved.
Applications
• Safe and easy removal and introduction of filters in filter housings
• Feeding reactors, granulators or introduction of API from bottles or containers into process vessels
• Safe and easy sampling
• Contained packaging of API or chemical
• Contained cleaning of process equipment
